To study the distribution, biological characteristics, intraspecific bio-diversity, population and production of some plants possessing high socio-economic and scientific value. To study the aspects on the formation, transformation and accumulation of useful compounds in plants. To study the scientific and technological bases for the cultivation, production and introduction of some new plants having high socio-economic value and their adaptation to different ecological areas. To recommend methods for conservation of precious species.
Activities: Survey, investigate and evaluate the possible occurrence of plant resources in Vietnam. Study the scientific bases for the protection, exploitation, development and utilization of plants of high economic value: aromatic plants (Mentha arvensis, M. piperita, Ocimum basilicum, O. gratissimum, Cymbopogon winterianus, C. martinii, Vetiveria zizanioides, Pogostemon cablin, Fokienia hodginsii, Litsea cubeba, Elsholtzia spp., ect.); oleiferous plants (Vernicia montana, V. fordii, Camellia oleifera, Cleidiocarpon cavaleriei, C. laurinum); medicinal plants (Stephania spp. Celastrus spp., Holarhena pubescens, etc).
