DEPARTMENT OF REMOTE SENSING ECOLOGY Functions and
tasks: Investigating,
applying remote sensing and Geographical Information Systems (GIS) in ecology
study, developing plans of conserving biodiversity. Setting up biodiversity
database. Providing
training courses in applying remote sensing and Geographical Information
Systems (GIS) for researches in other departments of Institute of Ecology and
Biological Resources (IEBR), local staffs in Protected Areas, postgraduate
students… Activities: Conducting
multi-level research programs in remote sensing and GIS field. These
technologies provide update and multi-dimensional information of biological
diversity. Proposing
recommendations for management organizations in order to preserve biodiversity
by applying remote sensing and GIS in risk assessment, predict environmental
conditions… Setting up
biodiversity maps: distribution map of Vietnam endangered species, vegetation
maps, biodiversity maps of Vietnam Protected Areas, ecological changes… Developing
biodiversity database for Protected Areas and nation… Organizing
training courses of applying remote sensing and GIS in biodiversity
conservation for researchers in IEBR, local staffs in Protected Areas,
postgraduate students of institutes, universities… Cooperation: Russian

Zoological Society (Germany), American Museum of Natural History, New York
